GEORGIANS
The Backbone of the Church

St. George Orthodox Church, Palarivattom, began as a parish with 145 founding families. As it grew into an independent church, it faced a unique challenge: its rapidly expanding community, which had grown to over 700 families, consisted of members who were strangers to one another.
To foster a close-knit community and ensure the holistic care of every family, the parish introduced an innovative umbrella organisation in July 2004: the Georgians.
The Georgians form the parish's true grassroots network, ensuring a direct connection to every family.
The Georgians also functions as the central coordinating body for the parish's spiritual, philanthropic, and social functions.
The entire parish was reorganised into 11 geographical units, each named after a patron saint.

Each family unit operates independently with its own Convenor, Joint Convenor, and Treasurer under the guidance of Georgians General Convenor.
Every church member belongs to a family unit based on residence. Through this system, the parish channels its collections and coordinates all charitable activities, guaranteeing that no family is overlooked.
A key activity is the monthly prayer meeting, held in rotation at member's homes, which strengthens spiritual and social bonds at the most personal level.
Whether celebrating a marriage or providing support during illness or bereavement, care is delivered compassionately and efficiently through this intimate family unit structure.
Georgians Coordination Committee
A Georgians Coordination Committee headed by the Vicar, comprises members of the clergy, the Church Managing Committee, Georgians General Convenor and leaders from 11 family units, oversees the various activities.
Charity Works
Georgians play a key role in the charity administration of the church.
An 11-member Executive Committee manages charity operations, with seven Vice Presidents specifically leading social welfare categories:
- Sick Aid
- Marriage Assistance
- Housing Assistance
- Educational Assistance
- Employment
- Youth Affairs
- Social Service
