Bala Samajam
Guiding children towards faith, fellowship, and service through the Balasamajam ministry, fostering spiritual and moral growth.

The Malankara Orthodox Church Balika–Bala Samajam is a spiritual and educational movement constituted in every parish of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. It seeks to deeply inculcate the ideals of worship, disciplined study, and wholesome Christian living among all boys and girls. The organization helps the younger generation grow up with a firm spiritual foundation through structured programmes that strengthen both their faith and character.
The programme focuses on the all-round development of children’s personality. Members are encouraged to study the Holy Bible and to gain an understanding of the rich traditions and history of the Church. This complements their academic education, helping them become well-rounded individuals. The inspiring lives of Saints are presented to cultivate habits of prayer, simplicity, and service, shaping a lifestyle that is spiritual and socially responsible.
The Bala Samajam also serves as a platform for children to feel a sense of belonging in the parish. Its activities encourage them to take part in Sunday School and the liturgy, fostering discipline and continuity in worship. Membership is open to every child between the ages of 5 and 15. At the central level, the Samajam is led by a Metropolitan, while priests serve as Vice-President and General Secretary. Elected Joint Secretaries—one boy and one girl—ensure children themselves take part in leadership. Each parish unit is guided by the priest as its President.
Our Unit: Like most parishes of the Malankara Orthodox Church, our parish has an active Bala Samajam unit which plays a vital role in nurturing the next generation. Regular monthly meetings bring together children aged 8 to 17 for Bible reading, short speeches, devotional songs, discussions, and quizzes. These activities strengthen their knowledge and teamwork. A dedicated Bala Samajam choir has also been formed, giving children the opportunity to use their musical talents in the service of God and the Church.
The ultimate aim of the Bala Samajam is to nurture the young boys and girls of our parish into spiritually mature and morally responsible individuals. They are encouraged to study the Holy Scriptures, to understand the history of the Church, and to practice Christian values in their daily lives. By combining faith with learning, the organization guides them towards a purposeful life of service. Our sincere hope is that they grow in the love of Christ, becoming role models for others and shining examples of Christian witness in society.
