Charity Works: Liturgy after Liturgy
St. George Orthodox Valiyapally is a leader in charity work, which we see as an extension of our Liturgy. Various committees under Georgians are in charge of managing these charity activities.
Financial Commitment
- A fixed 5% of the parish's annual income is allocated for charity.
- Additional funds are raised through a charity box and cover collections (donation envelopes).
- Special collections are taken for needy Orthodox churches with the Vicar's permission.
Parish organisations are also on the frontline of charity, with the Morth Maria Samajam, Elders' Forum, OCYM, and MGOCSM running independent charitable activities.
Regular Annual Support Programs
- Financial aid for the marriage of deserving girls.
- Medical assistance for patients, covering treatment and medicine costs.
- Educational support: Annual distribution of free school uniforms and study materials to children.
Housing Projects for the Homeless
- 1997: Provided houses to three parish members under a housing scheme.
- 2003: Constructed and donated two flats in a building named "Bethel" on a donated plot in Manjummal.
- Expansion: Two more flats were later added to Bethel.
- Current Status: Four families currently reside in the Bethel complex.
- Ongoing Work: The parish also repairs and renovates houses for indigent members.
Support for External Institutions
Provides regular financial support from parish members to the Sahakari Mar Anthonios Karunya Nilayam, a charitable home.
General Medical Aid
Provides case-by-case medical assistance to patients within the parish community.
The church continues to accept applications for marriage assistance, and new house construction is planned as needed.
