Elders Forum
Strengthening fellowship, wisdom, and spiritual growth among the senior members of our parish through the Elders Forum, fostering guidance, care, and a life rooted in faith and community service.

The Elders Forum of the St. George Orthodox Valiyapally, Palarivattom, is a living testament to the biblical promise that the faithful "will still bear fruit in old age."
This blessed community for senior members was launched in 2010 with the aim of providing a welcoming space where older members can build friendships, deepen their faith, and offer one another mutual support.
The initiative began with a thoughtful observation. The church recognised its many senior members—individuals rich with life experience and wisdom, often with grown children who had started families of their own.
To honour their contributions and address their specific need for fellowship and purpose, the St. George Orthodox Church in Palarivattom created a dedicated platform just for them. This pioneering effort became the first official Elders Forum within the entire Malankara Orthodox Church.
A Model for the Entire Church
The forum was so successful and impactful that it gained the attention of the church's highest authority. The Holy Synod of the Malankara Orthodox Church recognised it as an exceptionally effective and vital organisation for parish life.
As a result, the Synod officially approved it as a model institution for all parishes to adopt. They blessed it with the name "St. Joseph's Elders Forum" to serve as the standard framework for similar groups across the Malankara Sabha, ensuring this beautiful ministry of care and community continues to grow.
Vision and Mission
- Vision: "They will still bear fruit in old age" (Psalm 92:14). This means the forum believes that life in later years can still be productive, joyful, and spiritually fruitful.
- Mission: "Carry each other’s burdens" (Galatians 6:2). This is put into practice through members supporting one another with friendship, prayer, and help during difficult times.
Formation and Membership
The official general body meeting of the parish on 23 May 2010 approved the creation of this forum. Membership is open to all parishioners—both men and women—who are 55 years of age and above. The forum's activities are focused on the spiritual, physical, and mental well-being of its members.
Activities and Fellowship
The forum holds a monthly meeting on every third Wednesday, which is warmly attended by 80 to 100 members. These meetings are enriching and include:
- Inspiring talks and lectures from spiritual leaders and priests.
- Informative sessions from experts, such as doctors, on topics important to senior citizens.
- Discussions and debates on faith and life.
Beyond the monthly meetings, the forum also organises:
- An annual pilgrimage to significant Christian holy sites and churches.
- Group visits to orphanages and historical monuments.
- The provision of financial assistance and support to members facing times of distress, sickness, or hardship.
Organisation and Management
To ensure the forum runs smoothly, the members elect two groups:
- A 12-member Executive Committee: This team handles the day-to-day administration and activities.
- A 25-member General Council: This larger group helps to make important policy decisions, ensuring the forum continues to achieve its goals and serve its members effectively.
